I was inspired by a recent Honest Company blog post to make some homemade play dough for Little M to enjoy. I remember countless hours of fun as a child playing with the stuff....to this day, the smell of Play-Doh brings back a flood of great memories.
Making play dough at home is SO easy, and chances are you have the ingredients laying around the house. Not only is it cheaper to make your own, but it's chemical free since you're controlling the ingredients.
I pretty much used the exact recipe that the Honest blog followed....only I didn't use natural food coloring since I already had tons of the regular stuff on hand.
Here are the ingredients:
1 C Water
1 C Flour
1/3 C Salt
2 tsp. Cream of Tartar
1 Tbsp. Vegetable Oil
Mix everything over medium heat until it starts getting thick, then add in the food coloring and mix until it comes together in a big dough ball. That's it! Super simple!
A friend of mine also adds essential oils to make hers smell yummy.....since Little M eats EVERYTHING in site, I decided not to make it smell any better so as not to entice her to taste it. Nice thought, in theory, but of course she tasted it! Yuck, thanks to all the salt in the recipe!
Little M really enjoyed digging her fingers in it (and then ripping it apart and throwing it on the floor...you can see the start of that here).
This is definitely something I'll make over and over again!
